AI visibility is how often and how favorably AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews mention or cite your brand when buyers ask questions in your category.
We measure it as a share of tracked buyer prompts.
AI visibility is the share of relevant AI answers that name your brand, measured across a fixed set of buyer prompts. A prompt is the question a real buyer types, such as "best VAT compliance software for EU sellers." If 30 of 100 tracked answers name your brand, your visibility for that set is 30%.
The number only means something next to its prompt set, because a different set of questions gives a different score.
Buyers now ask AI assistants the questions they used to type into search engines, so a brand that's missing from those answers also misses the shortlist. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in October 2025 that ChatGPT had reached 800 million weekly users. In February 2024, Gartner predicted that traditional search volume will drop 25% by 2026.
Alan Antin, Vice President Analyst at Gartner, said, "Generative AI (GenAI) solutions are becoming substitute answer engines." And an assistant gives one answer instead of ten links, so second place gets little.
AI assistants pick the sources that answer the prompt most directly and that other trusted sites back up. Assistants that search the web first pull pages from a search index, so a page that can't be crawled never gets considered. The model then prefers passages it can quote as they stand, such as a clear definition or a figure with a source. Mentions on independent review sites and in the press give your claims more weight.
No. Google visibility measures where your pages rank in a list of links, while AI visibility measures whether an assistant names your brand inside its answer. A brand can rank on page one and be left out of the AI answer, and a competitor can get cited through a third-party review without ranking at all.

Core metric
A good score beats your direct competitors on the same prompt set and keeps rising. No universal benchmark exists, because a niche B2B brand tracked on 50 narrow prompts sits in a different range from a consumer brand tracked on broad ones.
Starting points are low. Snoika's founder Anton Vedeshin reported to Startup Reporter 1StopVAT's move from 2.7% to 28.3% ChatGPT visibility in 16 weeks. We keep the prompt set fixed between reports, because if it changes, the trend line stops meaning anything.
To monitor AI visibility, we run the same buyer prompts through each assistant on a schedule and record the answers.
We track ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, where most AI search traffic happens, with weekly prompt sets. With access to Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console and Google Tag Manager, we tie AI visibility to the traffic you already report on.
AI visibility is tracked with four metrics: mentions, share of voice, sentiment and citations. Each one answers a different question about how assistants treat your brand.
Mentions count how often assistants name your brand across the prompt set. The other three metrics all build on this number. Track it per assistant, since ChatGPT and AI Overviews disagree.
Share of voice is your mentions as a percentage of all brand mentions in the same answers, competitors included. It shows where you stand in the category, which a raw count can't.
Sentiment records whether the assistant describes you positively or negatively. A mention that warns buyers away does more harm than no mention at all.
Citations are the URLs an assistant links as its sources. Citations to your own page bring you traffic, while citations to a third-party page show where you need coverage.
